| The Mission of the Summer Solstice Trail Run: It has long been our quest to promote running and good health, to encourage individuals to set goals and make the commitment to a more active lifestyle. Of course, our mission has also been to help make running and fitness not only good fun but social besides. And it will always be our earnest wish to celebrate victory with every competitor who has the courage, the grit, and the will to be at the start line. The History of the Summer Solstice Trail Run: Oh, how it all began. We’ve been running in the Orangeville and Mono hills for years, and when we returned from the 2000 Marine Corps marathon in Washington, we realized we wanted to share our love of running - and in particular, trail running - with our community. After all, running had given us so much - wonderful friendships, the strong sense of accomplishment that comes with completing training goals, and the spark for adventure that only narrow footpaths and forests of fantastic trees can bring - and we wanted to give something back. We could think of no better way than to invite others to run with us on the winding trails of beautiful Mono Cliffs Park, to mark the beginning of summer. And thus, the Summer Solstice Trail Run was born. To our heartfelt delight, the run is now in its ninth year, and has brought legions of happy people, ready to get sweaty and celebratory under the glory of warm June evening skies. Here’s to summer! |
