Here in 2011 many runners use watches or other devices with GPS to
calculate their pace during a run.  Only a few years ago the most
dependable method was with pace wrist bands.  This is how I qualified for
my first Boston Marathon by inputing the target data and checking my
wrist band kilometre by kilometre to see if I had time in the bank or was
falling behind.  It doesn't actually have to be on your wrist, it can be pinned
to your shirt.  I had that first one laminated so it would not disintegrate
with sweat, handling, and rain.
