2010 C3 KINETICO Run Festival

Three years ago, I approached Kinetico and asked them to support me in the vision of creating a
great
FREE run for kids and adults.   Kinetico said yes, and agreed to give every kid a free t-shirt,
finishers medal, poster, draw prize, meal and a chance to meet Olympic and international athletes.
Last year we set a record with 1008 kids in the Free One Mile Race. This year our goal is to hit
1100 and surpass our record. I need your help by finding local kids of all ages, and registering them
(its free).  We will have moms and dads walking beside their 3 year olds, along with 15-17 year olds
tearing up the 1 mile run course.  The distance obviously is modest, and everyone can walk or run
the distance with just a bit of training. Our goal is to encourage the life-style sport of training.  One of
the things we learned from last year (and will change) is to have 3-4 different distinct starting groups
for the various age groups in the Kids 1 mile run (with the youngest kids going last so they don't get
caught up with the bigger older kids).
In addition to our Free Kids 1 Miler, we also have the K-SWISS 5k and 10k community runs. The
first two years, the Run Festival was on the very HILLY Innis Lake/Patterson Road Course.  Many
people complained about how hilly the course was, and we took their advice to make a NEW FLAT
course for this year onward.  All events will now start at the Caledon Town Hall on Old Church Road
(400m south of last year's Race Venue).   The 1 mile and K-Swiss 5km runs will be on the perfectly
flat, beautiful Caledon Rail Trail (great on the legs).   The K-Swiss 10km run will be use the entire flat
5km  run course with an additional 5km rolling hill loop as well.
The races will go from 10am-11:45am on Saturday Oct 2nd and the morning will blend right into
Caledon Day Festivities (which include an antique car show, art-show, live music and food).  We will
also have the very popular Climbing Wall set up for all kids to try for free.  Knowing that sport can
be very expensive for families, Kinetico and C3 have partnered to create the Running Festival to
help encourage healthy living.  Please help me, by doing one of 3 things.

A) Registering kids/friend's kids for the Free 1 Mile Run.
B) Registering yourself and friends for the K-Swiss 5k or 10km run.
C) Getting the word out to your friends/co-workers and other run families to get them involved.

While there is a place for big city races with 10 000+ runners in them, we believe a lower-key-family
and friends Running Festival, on a great Saturday morning in early October can also be a great
thing.  Please help me out today but registering yourself and sending this out to others you know
would enjoy meeting young Canadian Olympians, and helping create a new national record for kids
in a fun-run.   Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely

Toronto's Two Marathons come to agreement
Complaints from many directions prompted the City of Toronto to threaten both the  GoodLife
Marathon & Scotia Waterfront Marathon with cancellation of their Fall events if they could not agree
on one moving to a Spring date.  Deadline for an agreement without the City stepping in was was
Monday, February 22nd.  The agreement was reached late Wednesday and has both Marathons
running as scheduled this year.  Next year the GoodLife Marathon will run in May and Scotia's will
remain in the fall.  This years dates are Scotia on September 26th, and GoodLife's on October 17th.
